Day-by-Day Itinerary
Arrival in Chennai
Private airport transfer. Visit the 13-km-long Marina Beach — the world's second-longest urban beach. Explore Fort St. George, the first English fortress in India, and its excellent museum.
Mahabalipuram — Stone Sculptures
Drive south (2 hrs) to Mahabalipuram on the Coromandel Coast. Visit the UNESCO Shore Temple, the impressive Pancha Rathas (Five Chariots), and the giant Arjuna's Penance rock relief — some of the finest Pallava stone sculpture in Asia.
Pondicherry — French Colonial Charm
Drive to the former French colony of Pondicherry (1.5 hrs). Morning: the serene Auroville township and Matrimandir. Afternoon: Sri Aurobindo Ashram, the French Quarter, and the Promenade seafront.
Tanjore — The Great Temple
Drive to Thanjavur / Tanjore (3 hrs) — the seat of the Chola Empire. The Brihadeeswara Temple (UNESCO) with its 66-metre vimana tower is an engineering marvel of the 11th century. Visit Thanjavur Palace and its Saraswathi Mahal Library.
Madurai — The Temple City
Drive to the ancient city of Madurai (3 hrs). Guided tour of the Meenakshi Amman Temple — a city within a city, with 14 towering gopurams. Evening: Thirumalai Nayak Palace and the nightly temple ceremony.
Thekkady — Periyar Wildlife
Drive to the lush Cardamom Hills (3 hrs). Afternoon wildlife boat cruise on Periyar Lake inside the sanctuary — elephants, gaur, and sambar deer regularly spotted. Village spice plantation walk and cooking demonstration.
Alleppey — Houseboat in the Backwaters
Drive to Alleppey / Alappuzha (2.5 hrs). Board a traditional Kerala kettuvallam (rice boat) converted into a luxury houseboat. Drift through the emerald canals of the Western Ghats, passing rice paddies, coconut groves, and village life. Overnight on the boat with all meals.
Kochi — Fort Kochi
Morning disembark and drive to Kochi / Cochin (2 hrs). Explore Fort Kochi on foot: Chinese Fishing Nets at sunset, St. Francis Church (where Vasco da Gama was originally buried), Dutch Palace, and the Jewish Quarter at Mattancherry.
Kochi → Chennai — Departure
Morning at leisure. Optional: Kathakali dance performance or spice market. Private transfer to Kochi airport for your flight to Chennai (or direct international departure from Kochi).

Visa & Entry
Most foreign nationals can apply for an India e-Visa online — apply at least 4–7 days before departure. Keep a printed and digital copy of your visa approval and passport photo page handy for arrival immigration.
Currency & Payments
The Indian Rupee (INR) is the local currency. Cards are widely accepted at hotels, restaurants, and shops in cities, but carry some cash for local markets, small vendors, and rural stops. Notify your bank of your travel dates beforehand.
Dress Code
Modest clothing is appreciated at temples, mosques, and religious sites — shoulders and knees covered. Shoes are removed before entering most places of worship, so slip-on footwear is convenient.
Health & Safety
Drink only bottled or filtered water. We recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering medical emergencies. Check with your doctor about routine vaccinations 4–6 weeks before travel.

Tipping & Etiquette
Tipping is customary but not mandatory — around 10% for guides and drivers is appreciated for good service. A traditional greeting is placing your palms together and saying "Namaste."
